Grrreat Stuff!
Vaughn Roberts has a unique and brilliant style, because to him music is more than just sound, it is a 'realm where imagination guides emotion on a journey free from the constraints of the everyday world'. As a result he is not only captivated by music but produces music that is utterly captivating.
The compositions on this album in particular are the result of his journey of exploration through the varied styles found within big band jazz.
Featuring extraordinary writing coupled with an amazing lineup of talent, including some international stars, local jazz icons and young exciting new talent with promising careers of their own, this album captures the best of big band jazz. It's grrreat stuff!
Rata Records wishes to aknowledge the kind support of Creative New Zealand in making this recording.

“I am excited to have had the opportunity to record this album with such a talented ensemble, and sincerely thank all those who have supported me in my efforts. To you I dedicate this project, The Vaughn Roberts Big Band... it’s Grrreat Stuff!” – Vaughn Roberts
“Winner of the Tui 2006 Best Jazz Album, and quite rightly so. The compositions are very very strong on this CD but even more spectacular is the playing of the big band. The ensemble playing is of the highest order at all times, tight and controlled even when the tempo really gets going. Each of the tunes feature at least two soloists from the band and once again the solos are of the highest quality. Highly recommended - Kiwi jazz at it's best.” – Mark Robinson, GeorgeFM - itsajazzthing.com
